First Mongolian Cyclist to Compete in the Spanish Volta Ciclista a Catalunya

Ulaanbaatar, March 27, 2024 /MONTSAME/. In recent years, Mongolian cyclists have been actively participating in professional cyclist competitions of the Union Cycliste Internationale. International Master of Sports S. Jambaljamts made history by becoming the first Mongolian cyclist to compete in the 103rd edition of the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya, a prestigious seven-stage race considered one of the world's highest-class competitions.


Jambaljamts completed the 1173.4 km race in 30 hours, 18 minutes, and 53 seconds, earning the 132nd position overall. Notably, he performed exceptionally well on the mountainous terrain, securing the 26th position and contributing six points to his team. S. Jambaljamts' team, "Burgos BH" team took the 19th place in the competition in which 25 teams participated.


The Union Cycliste Internationale professional cyclists' competitions are divided into six categories, the most ranked of which are multi-day events in the "World Tour" category. Among the 15 races in this category, the Tour de France is the best. Only 18 teams from the "World Tour" category and 17 teams from the "Pro Tour" category have the right to participate in this tournament. Mongolian cyclist S. Jambaljamts' team, "Burgos BH," belongs to the 'Pro Tour' category. 18 athletes from Kazakhstan, three athletes from Japan and Uzbekistan, and two athletes from Iran and China participated in the 103rd edition of the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya.
