Ulaanbaatar, October 21, 2024 /MONTSAME/. The Seventh Assembly of Mongolian Doctors was held at the State Palace of Mongolia on October 17-19, 2024, under the auspices of the President of Mongolia Khurelsukh Ukhnaa.

President of Mongolia Khurelsukh Ukhnaa opened the Assembly, expressing gratitude, on behalf of the government and people of Mongolia, to all the doctors, medical personnel, and their families for tirelessly and heroically working to save thousands of lives during the pandemic. President Khurelsukh noted that in recent years, the introduction of new technology and innovation in the healthcare sector, including artificial intelligence-based services, has expanded the opportunities for citizens to receive world-class diagnostics and treatment in Mongolia, which has now reached international standards of specialized diagnostics and treatment in cardiology, neurology, trauma, oncology, and pediatrics.

President Khurelsukh underlined the importance of the following measures to intensify the healthcare sector development and safeguard Mongolian people’s health:

  • Strengthening healthcare and health service systems to bolster disease prevention and early detection.
  • Providing high-quality accessible healthcare and services domestically that meet international standards, reducing the flow of patients seeking treatment abroad.
  • Fully meeting the national demand for skilled doctors, nurses, and medical professionals while facilitating stable employment in rural areas and soums using sound economic leverage.
  • Further improving the health insurance system and results and performance-based funding in the healthcare sector, increasing the salary and ensuring social security for healthcare workers.
  • Paying special attention to the price, quality, and safety of medicine, importing and domestically manufacturing medicine and medical equipment that meet international standards, and promoting the appropriate use of medicine among citizens.
  • Taking more active measures to improve health education and promote healthy lifestyles and habits to prevent disease-causing risk factors.
“President Khurelsukh emphasized the importance of knowledge, skill, collaboration, and leadership of doctors and medical professionals in achieving tangible results of interrelated National Movements initiated by President of Mongolia, including the “One Billion Trees,” the “Food Supply and Security,” and particularly, the “Healthy Mongolian.”

The Sixth Assembly of Mongolian Doctors themed “Health-Pillar of Development” was held in 2019, under the auspices of the Prime Minister of Mongolia. During the Assembly, participants held discussions and exchanged views on issues facing the healthcare sector, with a recommendation issued as the outcome. The Government of Mongolia issued a resolution on some measures to support the development of the healthcare sector, which was the beginning of the implementation of initiatives resulting from the Sixth Assembly.

With the introduction of new technologies in the healthcare sector in the last five years, the quality and accessibility of healthcare services have improved, increasing the possibilities of citizens receiving diagnosis and treatment domestically. The establishment of comprehensive systems for training medical professionals, conducting academic research in medical science, and providing healthcare services facilitates favorable conditions for preparing skilled healthcare professionals domestically.

With the implementation of initiatives to improve the healthcare sector, all young children in Mongolia are included in comprehensive early-detection diagnoses to reveal congenital diseases, while the healthcare sector is now funded based on performance. Also, the State Great Khural approved the first law on Public Healthcare and Services, strengthening the early detection and prevention of diseases.

Over 4700 healthcare institutions operate in Mongolia, employing more than 15000 doctors nationwide. At the Assembly, the topic of “Healthcare Sector Policy and Reform” was presented, with discussions held on “Healthcare Aide and Services” and “Human Resources Policy in the Healthcare Sector, Social Guarantee, Training, and Innovation,” resulting in a unified recommendation issued as an outcome.
