Champions of the 13th National Amateur Chess Championships Announced
SportsUlaanbaatar, January 13, 2025 /MONTSAME/. The finals of the 13th National Amateur Chess Championships, organized as part of the 33rd anniversary of the Adoption of the Democratic Constitution of Mongolia, took place on January 12-13, 2025, at the State Palace of Mongolia.
Organized annually under the auspices of the Chairman of the State Great Khural of Mongolia ahead of Constitution Day of Mongolia, the preliminary round of the Chess Championships at the soum and district levels was held nationwide on November 23-24, 2024, while the semi-finals at the aimag and Capital levels were held on December 14-15, 2024.
In the finals of the National Championships, 104 male and 40 female chess players from soums, districts, aimags, and the Capital competed to test their intellect. In the eight-game Swiss system tournament, S. Sod-Erdene, a native of Zavkhan aimag and a participant from Khan-Uul district, won the gold medal in the men’s category with 7.0 points, D. Gankhulug, a chess player from the Mongolian Bar Association, secured the silver medal with 7.0 points, and T. Erdenechuluun, a participant from Bayanzurkh district, claimed the bronze medal with 6.5 points. In the women’s category, I. Nangilmaa, a native of Bayankhongor aimag and a member of the Capital City Chess Federation, won the gold medal with 6.5 points, while E. Tungalagsaikhan, a chess player from Zavkhan aimag, and D.Azjargal, a chess player from Bayankhongor aimag, came in second and third places with 6.0 points, securing silver and bronze medals, respectively.
The “Intellectual Legislator” award, given by the Mongolian Chess Federation, was presented to the senior chess players of the Constitutional Lawmakers’ Union D. Chilkhaajav and T. Gantumur, and members of Parliament J. Galbadrakh and O. Amgalanbaatar. The athletes who won the first three places and medals in the 13th National Chess Amateur Championships meet the requirements for the title of Candidate Master of Sports of Mongolia and will receive their certificates and badges on January 13, 2025, which is the Constitution Day of Mongolia.
