PoliticsUlaanbaatar, January 21, 2025 /MONTSAME/. The State Great Khural (Parliament) of Mongolia held a session on January 16, 2024, and approved a Resolution to appoint members to the Council of the National Statistics Office of Mongolia.
The Secretary-General of the State Great Khural of Mongolia, Baasandorj Barsuren, and the Deputy Head of the Secretariat of the State Great Khural of Mongolia, Amarbat Uurtsaikh, visited the National Statistics Office of Mongolia to present the Resolution and introduce the newly appointed members. The appointed council members are I. Batkhuu, T. Garamjugder, A. Davaasuren, G. Zolboo, D. Myagmartseren, and D. Tsolmon.
Following the introduction of the members, Secretary-General Baasandorj Barsuren delivered remarks. He highlighted that, as part of the constitutional amendments, efforts have been made to ensure checks and balances between powers, improve the effectiveness of parliamentary oversight, address challenges in enforcing laws passed by the Parliament of Mongolia over the past 30 years, and update the legal framework. These changes culminated in the 2020 adoption of the Law on Parliamentary Oversight, establishing a legal foundation for the Parliament of Mongolia to exercise its oversight.
The Secretary-General also noted that under the revised Law on the Procedure of the Sessions of the State Great Khural of Mongolia, open public selection processes were announced, and the leadership teams of organizations under the jurisdiction of the Parliament were appointed.
With the amendments to the Law on the Procedure of the Sessions of the State Great Khural of Mongolia, the previous practice of directly approving council compositions based on the scope of duties of the position was changed. Instead, the council now includes public representatives, and relevant officials are nominated and appointed through open hearings in accordance with the functions of government agencies. Secretary-General Baasandorj Barsuren wished success to the new team of the Council of the National Statistics Office of Mongolia.
