Hydrometrology Relay Stations and Guardhouses to be Built to Improve the Metrology and Environmental Monitoring Sector

Ulaanbaatar, April 10, 2025 /MONTSAME/. A discussion between the administrative staff of the metrology and environmental monitoring sector of Mongolia was held on April 8-9, 2025, at the National Agency for Meteorology and Environmental Monitoring (NAMEM).


Minister of Environment and Climate Change of Mongolia Odontuya Saldan participated in the discussion, noting that during this time of intensified climate change, she will focus on measures to make technological reform in the sector. As part of the technological reform, the Ministry is planning to deploy automatic air quality monitoring stations in 21 aimags, establish laboratories that meet international standards, and enhance the technical capability for modifying the weather year-round. The Minister also emphasized that a draft Law is being formulated, with provisions on ensuring social guarantees for employees in the metrology and environmental monitoring sector.


In an effort to improve the working conditions in this sector, 20 hydrometeorology relay stations and over 100 guardhouses are planned to be built using environmentally friendly technology.


Administrative officers from NAMEM, along with representatives from four affiliated organizations and the directors of meteorological agencies of 21 aimags, participated in discussions about the achievements and shortcomings in the sector, as well as measures to be implemented in the future.
