Mongolia Outlines Priorities at IOM Council’s 116th Session

Ulaanbaatar, December 12, 2025 /MONTSAME/. The 116th Session of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Council convened on December 8-10, 2025, in Geneva, Switzerland. The delegation of Mongolia, led by Permanent Representative to the UN and other international organizations in Geneva, Gerelmaa Davaasuren, participated in the Session of the IOM Council.
The session brought together more than 500 participants, including
representatives from 175 member states, eight observers, international
organizations, and the private sector, to discuss key migration issues.
On the first day of the Council Session, Permanent
Representative Gerelmaa attended as a panelist in the side-event “Call to Action
for the Resilience Campaign” and shared views on the further collaboration of
the member states to ensure its timely response to humanitarian aid as well as a
safe, orderly, and humane migration policy.
During the General Debate on the second day, Permanent
Representative Gerelmaa delivered a statement, expressing appreciation for
IOM’s fulfillment of its core mandates and leadership and the continuous
technical assistance provided to countries all over the world. She appraised
recent achievements and potential cooperation between the Government of Mongolia
and IOM.
Director General Amy
Pope expressed gratitude to the Government of Mongolia for its continued
support to the IOM and for its voluntary contribution to the IOM Resilience
Fund. She also announced that efforts are underway to launch the IOM Country
Office in Ulaanbaatar.
Mongolia became a Member of the International Organization
for Migration in 2008.
