Railway construction in western and eastern region to be intensified
At its regular meeting on January 19, the Cabinet instructed 'Mongolian Railway' state-owned shareholding company to carry out the construction work of the western and eastern cross-country railways under the build-transfer-operate type of concession contract, reports Minister of Road and Transport L.Khaltar.

National currency in circulation reaches MNT 1.1 trillion
According to the preliminary results, the national currency in circulation reached MNT 1.1 trillion at the end of December 2021, increased by MNT 20.3 billion (1.9 percent) from the previous month, and increased by MNT 114.1 billion (11.5 percent) from the same period of the previous year.

Foreign workers in Mongolia decrease by 2.4 percent
In the fourth quarter of 2021, 5.6 thousand foreign citizens from 77 foreign countries were working in Mongolia with labor contract with purpose of earning wage and income or voluntarily without earning wage and income. The number of foreign workers decreased by 136 (2.4 percent) from the previous quarter.

General government budget expenditure increased by MNT 1.7 trillion in 2021
According to the preliminary results at end of the 2021, the total revenue of the general government budget was MNT 14.3 trillion, increased by MNT 3.8 trillion (36.5 percent) compared to the previous year. The equilibrated revenue of the general government budget was MNT 12.7 trillion increased by MNT 3.2 (34.1 percent) trillion compared to the previous year.

Mongolia’s economy projected to grow by 2.1 percent in 2022
World Bank initially projected Mongolia's economic growth to expand by 3.5 percent in 2021. However, it lowered the forecast by 2.4 percentage in its previous forecast released in June, 2021. It was noted that the rising inflation rate put significant pressure on the country’s economy in addition to the risks of new variants of COVID-19 and external debt.

Mongolia’s 2020 poverty rate estimated at 27.8 percent
The National Statistics Office (NSO) of Mongolia and the World Bank announced December 30, 2021 their joint official poverty rate estimation for 2020. The two organizations have collaborated on poverty measurement based on household consumption surveys since 2002.

Transport resumes for containers with import goods and products
Transportation has resumed for containers with imported goods and products that accumulated at the Erlian border checkpoint of China for three months. In order to create the conditions to have uninterrupted transport of goods under pandemic circumstances, a ‘Zero Point’ was established between the borders of Mongolia and China.

Works for renewing border checkpoints to complete in 2022
On January 10, executive officials of customs organizations convened at the Customs General Administration. During the meeting, it was highlighted that of MNT 3.560 trillion that was planned to be contributed to the state budget in 2021, customs duties amounted to MNT 3.509 trillion which makes up 98.6 percent of the previous year’s goal.

Military personnel to transport goods and freight to Zamiin-Uud
On January 10, Minister of Justice and Internal Affairs Kh.Nyambaatar informed that freight will be transported from the Mongolia-China border to Zamiin-Uud by 200 professional drivers at police agencies, border patrol, and emergency departments.

The stocks of APU JSC are leading the market capitalization of companies listed in the Mongolian Stock Exchange. On January 5, the market rates of the company’s shares increased by 1.4 percent, with its share price reaching MNT 1,901. As a result, the company has reached market capitalization worth MNT 2 trillion for the very first time.
