Ulaanbaatar to host 2016 Asian Youth Chess Championship

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Celebrating the 24th anniversary of the Constitution of Mongolia, the finals of the 2016 Amateur Chess Championship were held at State House on January 9-10.

Mongolia adopted its first democratic Constitution and the fourth in its history on January 13 of 1992. Commemorating it, Amateur Chess Championship was organized for the fourth time under auspices of the Chairman of the State Great Khural (parliament) Z.Enkhbold. The latter gave the opening remarks and opened the finals by having a chess game with a Chairman of the Ulaanbaatar Citizens’ Representatives Khural D.Battulga.

Since the first Amateur Chess Championship, held in 2013 with a participation of the UB city's representatives only, a number of players and a scope of the competition have been increasing with over 1,200 participants in 2014, 2,400 in 2015 and 4,800 players in 2016.

In the finals, nine sets were played by 95 men and 35 women players. In the men’s category, B.Tsetsenbaatar, amateur player from Ulaanbaatar, won the first place collecting a total of 7.5 points, followed by M.Altangerel (Ulaanbaatar) with 7.0 points and D.Duurenjargal (Dornod aimag) with 7.0 points.

In the women’s category, the first place went to J.Davaasuren (Ulaanbaatar) with 8 points, followed by T.Mandakh (Darkhan-Uul aimag) with 7 points and G.Ariunbayar (Ulaanbaatar) with 7 points.

In the closing ceremony, a secretary-general of the Parliament Secretariat B.Boldbaatar thanked Mongolia's Chess Federation for co-hosting the event and expressed his best wishes to all the  participants.

Moreover, Mongolia's Chess Federation pledged to accredit winners of each category of the 2016 Amateur Chess Championship with Candidate Master titles and acknowledged that Mongolia will be hosting the Asian Youth Chess Championship 2016 in its capital on this April 5-15.
