Standing committee members meet U.S. Congress delegation
PoliticsUlaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Fruitful cooperation between the legislative bodies of the USA and Mongolia plays a vital role in strengthening democracy, said Peter Roksam, a US Congressman and chairman of the House Democracy Partnership (HDP) when meeting members of the Standing committees of the Mongolian State Great Khural on Sunday.
“Our Congress represents all its voters. However, the voters are not very satisfied with the legislative organ all the time, which is commonplace in most countries. So, the U.S. congressmen came up with possible ways of collaboration in enhancing the voters’ trust and their satisfaction with parliamentary actions,” Roksam said.
Mentioning that the US side has a willingness to exchange with Mongolian side the best practices, Roksam asked the Mongolian parliament to provide information about people’s satisfactory level regarding the Standing committees’ actions, sufficiency of professional staff and party representations in the composition of the Standing committees and insurance of free participation of MPs in making decisions.
Head of the Standing committee on state structure A.Bakei wished the US delegation a good visit here and expressed his satisfaction with this meeting which is held prior to the forthcoming parliamentary elections in Mongolia.
Noting that a US Congress delegation visited Mongolia in 2011 in frames of the HDP’s program, A.Bakei MP pointed out the inter-parliamentary friendship groups have been set up thanks to a successful realization of the program. The US Congress passed several resolutions in favor of the democracy, free elections and the transmission of Mongolian market, he emphasized, and acknowledged the collaboration between the legislative bodies which became a vital part of the bilateral relations.
In parallel with passing laws, the State Great Khural monitors the realization of the legal documents, so Mongolia wants to cooperate with the USA in refining upon the supervising system of parliamentary actions, A.Bakei said.
At the meeting, L.Bold and Ts.Oyunbaatar MPs touched upon the ongoing legal reforms in Mongolia and realization of laws.
