Embassy of Turkey holds reception on Turkish Victory Day

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ On occasion of the 94th anniversary of the Victory Day of Turkey, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkey to Mongolia Murat Karagoz held a reception of honor in the Embassy building on August 30.

The reception was attended by B.Bat-Erdene, the Minister of Defense; parliamentarians; Ambassadors to Mongolia; and military attaches of Embassies in Mongolia.

In his speech, the Turkish Ambassador highlighted that the victory of Turkish people gained 94 years ago was a heroic event.

“Under leadership of our great Marshal Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, we got victory at the final battle in Dumlupınar, building up a base of founding the Republic of Turkey. He is the symbol of the Turkish independence, triumph of freedom and courage of the Army.

On August 15, a coup d'etat was attempted in Turkey. This incidence which opposed Turkey’s sovereignty, unity and democratic state was fiercely protested by Turkish people,” the Ambassador said.

“As our President said, we are striving to foster our Republic government and to bring the national economy and politics into the highest volume of civilization. We will continue the fight against such actions of traitors and dissidents, ignoring threats of terrorist organizations which always attempt to destroy our peace and happiness,” he stressed.

Victory of the battle in Dumlupınar resulted a proclamation of the Turkish independence on October 30, 1922, and Mustafa Kemal Ataturk was elected as the first President of the Republic of Turkey. He maintained a principle called “secularism” which separates politics and religion. He also carried out a number of reforms, for instance, the Arabic alphabet was replaced by Latin alphabet, and women were provided with rights to vote parliamentary elections and to be elected as parliamentarians.
