Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ On April 25, Tuesday, National Library hosted a book cover donation event for about 35 thousand books with decayed and old cloths or covers kept in its repertory.
The event was organized in the frameworks of a 3-year project titled ‘Bookcloth’, co-realized by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Sports and JCI Mongolia since April, 2015. For the last 2 years, over 10 thousand books of the National Library have had their covers and cloths renewed.
The National Library keeps over 1 million ancient scriptures and sutras including historical records co-written and composed by scholars from Mongolia, Tibet and India, and books written in precious gemstones, according to T.Bayarlakh, Manager of Tibetan book repertory at the National Library. “About 35 thousand of them require reclothing”, he said, encouraging citizens to donate book covers and cloths. “Moreover, when the library relocates to its new building, there’s a high risk that these books are damaged”.
During the event, N.Erdenebayar, Director of National Blood Transfusion and Research Center handed over 108 bookcloths hand-made by over 70 doctors and staff of the center. More organizations like the 79th School, Institute of Technology and ‘Temuujin Urlug’ School donated book covers at the event.
