UB Mayor meets ADB Director General for East Asia

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Governor of the capital city and Mayor of Ulaanbaatar city S.Batbold received Indu Bhushan, Director-General of the Asian Development Bank's (ADB) East Asia Department, and other officials on November 2.

At the meeting, the sides discussed a progress of ongoing projects and projects to be implemented in the country.

S.Batbold thanked for postponing a loan agreement term of the first phase of project ‘Bus rapid transit’ (BRT) until February 28, 2020. The Bus rapid transit is a bus-based public transport system designed to improve capacity and reliability relative to a conventional bus system. In the margin of the BRT project, 64.5 km long bus lane will be built in Ulaanbaatar city.  

The Municipal Government and the Asian Development Bank are jointly implementing projects, including ‘Ulaanbaatar urban services and ger areas development investment program’ and ‘Ulaanbaatar affordable housing and urban renewal project’.

It will also collaborate with ADB to implement a project ‘Community waste management and recycling’ with a funding worth USD3 million of the Japan Special Fund for Poverty Reduction. The project aims at building safer and better environmental conditions for residents living in poor peri-urban or ger areas in Ulaanbaatar and introducing effective community participation in waste management and recycle in the city.

Moreover, the Municipal Government has an active cooperation with ADB specialists on measures to reduce air pollution of the city.
