World Bank project to support employment in Mongolia

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/  Head of the Standing committee on Social Policy, Education, Culture and Sciences Yo.Baatarbileg met Philip O’Keefe, Lead Economist in the Social Protection and Labor Global Practice at the World Bank, working in East Asia and Pacific (EAP) region on January 11.

They exchanged views on developing labor and social welfare sector of Mongolia, pension reform and legal landscape of the sector. Head of the Standing committee Yo.Baatarbileg informed about making amendments to labor law and package law on social insurance, pension reform and ongoing activities of social welfare. Additionally, he requested to continue projects that were implemented by the World Bank targeted to supporting employment, creating job places and reducing poverty and unemployment.

In response, Philip O’Keefe said the request meets objectives of a project to be implemented in Mongolia starting from February. Afterwards, he introduced the project 'Mongolia Employment Support Project' to MP Yo.Baatarbileg which aims at rendering technical and professional support using USD 25 million, which will be realized in 4 years in cooperation with the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection.

The sides also exchanged information on forthcoming cooperation activities.
