Mongolian monk gets highest Buddhist philosophical degree
SocietyIn order to recieve this degree, monks have to have lessons for 16 years on 5 tomes of Buddhist philosophy at eight Gelugpa Buddhist Schools in India to get their permission to enter the Lkhaaramba exam. After that, once a year or totally 6 times they take exam on Buddhist philosophy. Successfully passing the exams 'Lkhaaramba' degree is given to monks.
Monk D.Javzandorj led the others in tour exams out of the six and ranked the second in two exams. He started his Buddhist studies in a monastery in Sukhbaatar aimag in 1991, continueing his Buddhist philosophy studies in Dashchoiling and Gandantegchinling Monasteries in Ulaanbaatar and left India for further studies in the beginning of 1998. No one had recieved Lkhaaramba degree since 1921 in Mongolia.
