Former Minister S.Bayartsogt to be detained for 30 days

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Former Minister S.Bayartsogt will be held at the Pre-Trial Detention Center 461 for 30 days, in accordance with a ruling by the Criminal Court of Bayanzurkh, Sukhbaatar and Chingeltei districts.
According to G.Orkhon, attorney of S.Bayartsogt, the former Minister of Finance was arrested immediately after an interrogation on April 1. The Criminal Court proceeded under a closed regime.
“My client has not tried to escape any of the proceedings and agreed to cooperate with the investigation. I do not agree with the court ruling to detain him for 30 days,” he said.
S.Bayartsogt is accused of possible abuse of power during the negotiations for the Oyu Tolgoi Investment Agreement, signed in 2009.
