Official tour routes approved

Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/ The Cabinet held its regular meeting on June 13 and approved the official main tour routes and border-area and trans-boundary tour routes.

According to policy documents, nationwide main tour routes have been defined as ‘Main tour routes’, ‘Tea Road’, ‘Silk Road’ and ‘Ikh Tumen Gol’, other transboundary tour routes as ‘Border area and transboundary tour routes’ as well as local tour routes as ‘Tourism spots of provinces and the capital’.

"At the first stage we plan to establish airports in Umnugobi, Khuvsgul, Khovd and Uvs aimags and  Kharkhorin soum," said Minister of Envirionment and Tourism N.Tserenbat.

The Cabinet made a decision to draw up and implement a plan to ensure tourism products, service development and tourists’ safety along the main tour routes. Required funding will be projected in the state budget every year and involved in foreign loan and assistance as well as infrastructure investment will be included in the state investment program.

Government targets to increase the number of tourists to a million by 2020, earning worth up to USD 1 billion from this sector. To achieve the goal, it is necessary to increase the number of tourists by 30 percent steadily within three years.  

Corresponding ministries, agencies and organizations are responsible for conducting active publicity and marketing activities, increasing routes and frequency of flights, developing border area tourism as well as creating safe and convenient conditions for tourists.

Last year, Mongolia received over 470 thousand tourists, with an increase of 14 percent compared with 2016.
