Redevelopment project of Khalkhgol soum center commences

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ In frames of the Mongolian-Russian joint celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Battles of Khalkhin Gol, a New Soum project will be implemented to redevelop the Khalkhgol Soum Center.

During their meeting on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum, President of Mongolia Khaltmaagiin Battulga and President of Russia Vladimir V.Putin agreed on jointly celebrating the anniversary by organizing an exhibition, producing feature and documentary films, and publishing books. President Battulga introduced to his Russian counterpart the project which aims to redevelop the Center of Khalkhin Gol Soum, the population of which is declining despite of its historic significance and unique natural features. The Russian side expressed its willingness to grant funds worth around USD 10 million.

Moreover, during a meeting between Chief of Staff to the President Z.Enkhbold and authorities of the Rosneft Public Joint Stock Company of Russia, the company informed of its decision to donate EUR 8 million for the redevelopment works.

With the opportunity to redevelop the soum center with non-budgetary financial source, the project officially commenced on October 12th, 2018. Present at the ground-breaking ceremony were, Deputy Chief of Staff to the President B.Saruul, Governor of Dornod Aimag M.Badamsuren, Chairman of Citizens’ Representative Khural of Khalkhgol Soum Ts.Nasankhuu, and Governor of Khalkhgol Soum Kh.Khurel-Erdene. The teachers and students of the Dornod Vocational Center and locals who will take part in the works were also in attendance.

In scope of the upbuilding works of inter-soum range, a local administration palace, a cultural center, an inter-soum hospital, a school for 650 kids, a dormitory, a kindergarten for 150 kids, a sports hall, a playground, a parking lot, and a recreational space will be constructed. The construction works will have ended before the celebration next year.
