Informal lower house of parliament to be established

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ A multilateral open discussion titled ‘Social involvement of Mongolians abroad and state policy towards them’ was held on December 7.

During the discussion MP N.Uchral announced that a lobby group to support Mongolians abroad was established at the Parliament. The discussion was organized jointly by the Council of Mongolians Abroad and United Alumni Council of Mongolia (UACM) within the activities of the lobby group.

Minister of Foreign Affairs D.Tsogtbaatar, representatives of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Sports, and people who have studied and worked abroad exchanged views and opinions at the discussion.

‘Think Mongolia’ project was introduced at the discussion. The council of alumnis, to be formed with 100 young researchers who got their PhD abroad will provide research-based recommendations on bills, regulation drafts and government actions. In other words, it will be an informal form of lower house of a bicameral legislature. However, their recommendations and comments will influence the decision-making process through members of the lobby group at the Parliament.

The participants of the discussion believe that the council of 100 young leaders will be a great support for the country’s development and good state policy.
