Education Minister discusses celebration of diplomatic anniversary with French Ambassador

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ On February 19, Minister of Education, Culture, Science and Sports Yo.Baatarbileg received Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of France to Mongolia, Mr. Philippe Merlin.


The year 2020 will mark the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and France. In this light, the two parties exchanged views on organizing educational and cultural events in the frames of the anniversary.


Since 1996, the number of Mongolian students and teachers who graduated from France universities and participated in professional development courses surpassed 150 as well as nearly 50 professionals learned French experience and attended short-term training. Moreover, France grants scholarships to 10 Mongolian students every year.


The sides noted that Mongolia and France have been actively cooperating in the scientific field. For instance, Mongolia-France joint archaeological expedition formed in 1993 commenced archeological research on the Xiongnu Empire named ‘The First Empire of Steppe’. In the years of 1996-2014, the joint expedition conducted excavations in 55 historic landmarks. As a result, the French side has rehabilitated 200 historic findings with EUR 200.000 and handed them to Mongolia.
