In the frameworks of the installation of the PET/CT equipment as well as a cyclotron, which makes radioactive isotopes for the scanner, at the diagnosis and treatment center at the Second Central Hospital, Director of the Second Central Hospital G.Bayasgalan, Deputy Director in charge of strategy and planning B.Erdenebulgan attended the 1st Radioisotope-Antibody Drug Asian Conference, which took place at the Korea Institute of Radiological and Medical Sciences (KIRAMS) on March 7-8, signing a Memorandum of Cooperation on the usage of the isotope Zirconium-89 in diagnosis and treatment.
Aside from being used to diagnose breast cancer, Zirconium-89 is currently being researched whether the isotope is possible to be used in treatment.
The demand of nuclear medicine diagnosis is high in Mongolia, 20 per cent of patients who need it go abroad for the diagnosis, facing financial and other difficulties. The National Diagnosis and Treatment Center at the Second Central Hospital is to be opened in the near future.
