4.9 thousand foreign workers from 91 countries employed in Mongolia

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ In the first quarter of 2019, 4.9 thousand foreign workers from 91 foreign countries were employed with labour contract in Mongolia including persons in employment work for pay or profit and persons in volunteer work without pay or profit.


Of all foreign workers with labour contract in Mongolia, 4.1 thousand (83.7 percent) were male and 0.8 thousand (16.3 percent) were female.


From foreign workers in Mongolia, 38.1 percent is from China, 9.7 percent is from Australia, 6.7 percent is from the Russian Federation, 5.6 percent is from South Korea, 5.2 percent is from USA, 5.0 percent is from Vietnam, 3.9 percent is from South Africa, 3.5 percent is from Canada, 3.4 percent is from Philippines, 3.2 percent is from Great Britain and remaining 15.7 percent is from other countries.


By the age groups of foreign workers, the highest percentage or 16.5 percent was persons aged 45-49 years and the lowest percentage or 0.5 percent was persons up to aged 20 years.


Of total foreign workers by the first quarter of 2019, 1.8 (36.2 percent) thousand foreign workers are working in mining and quarrying sector, 972 (19.7 percent) foreign workers are working in education sector, 837 (17.0 percent) workers are working in wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motocycles, 317 (6.4 percent) workers are working in processing industries sector, 232 (4.7 percent) workers are working in transportation and storage, 166 (3.4 percent) workers are working in administrative and support service activities, 161 (3.3 percent) workers are working in construction sector and 0.5 (9.3 percent) thousand foreign workers are working in other sectors.
