World heritage expert works in deer stone monument sites

Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/. Mongolia prepared a nomination file for ancient cultural site 'Deer stone monuments, the Heart of Bronze age culture' and submitted it for inscription at World Heritage list in 2018. Accordingly, Mr.Toshio Hayashi, expert from the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) worked in Mongolia to carry out a technical assessment. He worked in complex sites with deer stones  ‘Tsatsiin Ereg’ in Ikhtamir soum and ‘Ikh Jargalant’ in Undur-Ulaan soum of Arkhangai aimag and ‘Uushiin Uvur’ in Burentogtokh soum of Khuvsgul aimag.

Mr. Toshio Hayashi held meetings with authorities and specialists of Education and Culture Departments and Social Policy Departments of the aimags and with governors of baghs /smallest administrative unit/ and inhabitants of the soums where deer stone monuments are existed, to exchange views on safeguarding and conservation and receive information.

Expert Toshio Hayashi will submit the report of his work to the World Heritage Committee, which will discuss an issue on whether to inscribe the nominated complex heritage sites with deer stones belong to Bronze Age culture, at its regular meeting to be held in 2020.

Within his working visit, Mr. Toshio Hayashi met with Head of the National Committee for World Heritage and Deputy Foreign Minister B.Battsetseg, Deputy Minister of Education, Culture, Sciences and Sports G.Ganbayar as well as other relevant officials.
