Minister Ch.Ulaan meets UNFAO Director-General Qu Dongyu

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Minister of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry Ch.Ulaan is paying a working visit to Berlin, Germany to attend the Global Forum for Food and Agriculture 2020. On the sidelines of the forum, Minister Ch.Ulaan met with Qu Dongyu, Director-General of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (UNFAO).  


During the meeting, Agriculture Minister Ch.Ulaan briefed measures taken in 2019 in food, agriculture and light industry sector of Mongolia and introduced and exchanged views on main works that planned to be done in 2020. Furthermore, he presented Government’s ongoing measures on increasing export of agricultural products. In particular, he notified that the Government is creating legal environment to export wheat, rye flour, milk products, heat processed meat and meat products and animal origin products to China in addition to launching discussions on exporting meat and meat products and animal origin products to countries such as Russia, Vietnam, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Iran and Turkey.


Moreover, the Minister introduced policy on making the sector digitized in order to increase competitiveness and effectiveness of the sector while informing that the Government has completed developing strategic document on making the sector digitized.  


In response, Director General of the UNFAO commended Government policies and claimed that he agrees with importance of making the sector digitized. Noting that UNFAO is ready to provide assistance on completely digitizing the sector and introducing up-to-date advanced digital solutions, the UNFAO Director General remarked that it is proper for Mongolia to implement open policy on trade to increase its export. He underlined importance of attending international forums, consultations and fairs, introducing policies and promoting the country and its products.
