Money supply increases by 1.3 percent

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. The National Statistics Office (NSO) gave a briefing today on the social and economic statistics of the first five months of 2020 online.




The money supply (M2) reached MNT 20.6 trillion at the end of May 2020, increased by MNT 259.9 billion (1.3%) compared with the same period of the previous year. The main reason for this increase was resulted from MNT 1046.8 billion (35.7%) increase of time deposits in foreign currency, MNT 62.5 billion (2.7%) increase of current account in foreign currency and MNT 34.2 (5.1%) increase of currency outside depository corporations.


At the end of May 2020, the total amount of outstanding loan to entities and individuals amounted to MNT 17.2 trillion, increased by MNT 16.6 billion (0.1%) from the previous month, while it is decreased by MNT 795.6 billion (4.4%) from the same period of the previous year. In the total outstanding loans, MNT 8.8 trillion (51.2%) was individual loans.


At the end of May 2020, the principals in arrears amounted to MNT 1.1 trillion, decreased by MNT 161.4 billion (12.3%) from the previous month, while it is increased by MNT 324.6 billion (39.5%) from the same period of the previous year. The principals in arrears make up to 6.7% of total loans, showing an increase of 2.0 points from the same period of the previous year.


At the end of May 2020, the non-performing loans in the banking system amounted to MNT 1.9 trillion, increased by MNT 100.9 billion (5.4%) from the previous month, while it is decreased by MNT 2.3 billion (0.1%) from the previous year. The non-performing loans in the banking system make up to 11.5% of total loans, showing an increase of 0.5 point from the same period of the previous year.
