Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ As part of the Ulaanbaatar city government’s efforts to improve waste management in the capital city, municipal officials provided garbage trucks designed to transport sorted waste to the waste collection services of 9 districts on July 6.

During the presentation event, Acting Governor of the capital city and Mayor of Ulaanbaatar J.Batbayasgalan said, “Equipment upgrade is necessary for improving waste management and the Ulaanbaatar city government and waste management services are doing many things in this regard. 35 new trucks are being put into garbage collection service this year.”

Also, Ulaanbaatar General Manager T.Gantumur noted the importance of practicing source separation, saying “We have put source separation bins in numerous locations to encourage school and kindergarten children and businesses to source separate. Even though 85 percent of the total 1.3 million tons of waste generated in the capital city every year is recyclable, we are currently recycling less than 25 percent of it.”
