High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development kicks off

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. The annual High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development Goals (HLPF) under the auspices of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) kicked off virtually on July 7.
During the HLPF which is taking place from July 7 to July 16,
Voluntary National Reviews of the implementation of the Sustainable Development
Goals 2030 will be presented by 47 UN member countries and side and special
events are scheduled to be held. The forum will also focus on the economic and
social impact of COVID-19 pandemic as well as overcoming and recovering. In addition, the HLPF will adopt a Ministerial Declaration as
the outcome of its session.
Delegation of Mongolia led by Permanent Representative to the UN
are participating in the forum. In her speech during the opening session of the
forum, Chairwoman of the National Statistics Office of Mongolia A.Ariunzaya
introduced the role of the statistics sector in evidence-based decision-making,
the support needed by developing countries to improve the quality of
information and strengthen the sector’s capacity. Furthermore, she stressed the
importance of accurate policies, responses and new partnerships in overcoming
the COVID-19 pandemic and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
The National Statistical Office of Mongolia (NSO) presides the High-level Group for Partnership, Coordination, and capacity- Building for statistics for the 2030 Sustainable Development, the Board for the Partnership in Statistics for Development in the 21st Century (PARIS21) and the Association of National Census and Statistics Directors of America, Asia and the Pacific (ANCSDAAP).
