Historical complex in Khentii under development to showcase XIII century history

National Institute of Historical Tourism to be launched in 2023


Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. On August 11, Minister of Environment and Tourism D.Sarangerel held a meeting with executives of the contracting company for the construction of the National Institute of Historical Tourism and corresponding officials to discuss the progress of the construction work and other matters. 


 

The parliament approved the Vision-2050 long-term policy document, which put the tourism sector to become a major pillar for the economy. This was also reflected in the government action program that will soon be discussed by the parliament. Within this framework, the Ministry of Environment and Tourism is implementing projects to develop environmental and historical tourism in the country.

 

The construction work for the tourism complex in Khentii aimag - the birthplace of Chinggis Khaan, is currently underway. A total of 6 complexes are to be established in the soums of Dadal, Batnorov, Norovlin, Delgerkhaan, Binder, and Berkh in the aimag.


As they all exhibit the history and culture of 13th century Mongolia, the complex will collectively run under the National Institute of Historical Tourism named as ‘Man of the Millenium - the Great Chinggis Khaan’. The construction work is planned to be completed and the complex is to be put into operation by 2023. Alongside the six complexes, the work to establish the ‘Underground Mining Museum, Training, Research, and Tourism Center of Mongolia’ complex has also been recently kicked off by the Ministry of Mining and Heavy Industry.


1. The ‘Great Chinggis Khaan’ complex


This complex will be built in Dadal soum, Khentii aimag with financing from the Asian Development Bank. Currently in the planning stage, the main structure will have a total area of 4,000 sq.m. Apart from the museum, exhibition halls, digital exhibits, and a gift shop, it will also have an altar and an amphitheater with 250 seats.


2. ‘Valiant warrior Boorchu - Oath of Friendship’ complex


The ‘Valiant warrior Boorchu - Oath of Friendship’ complex is currently being built in Batnorov soum, Khentii aimag. The main structure, ‘Oath of Friendship’ hall is 3 meters below ground and 18 meters above ground. It is 21 meters tall, which is about the same height as a six-story building. With their helmets collided, the structure displays two warriors taking an oath in the name of the sky. On the exterior, it also illustrates two wolves symbolizing Borte Chino and Gua Maral jumping up in the air. A heritage museum is planned to open at the complex, which will exhibit rare artifacts from the 13th century that have never been displayed to the public.



3. ‘Shikhikhutug - Ikh Zasag Law’ complex


The ‘Shikhikhutug - Ikh Zasag Law’ complex will be built in Norovlin soum, Khentii aimag. The core monument of the complex is illustrated with a winged horse, standing at a height of 60 meters. The complex will consist of a library, a ceremonial hall, and a museum. The construction work for the museum’s training and research center and its infrastructure are planned to be completed by the end of 2020. 



4. ‘Secret History of the Mongols’ complex


The ‘Secret History of the Mongols’ complex is currently under construction in Delgerkhaan soum, Khentii aimag. Standing at a height of 27 meters, the complex is about the same height as a nine-story building. A museum, ‘The Secret History of the Mongols - the World’s Book’, will be established, with over 300 books published in 30 different languages displayed. At the site of Khuduu aral, where the Aurag Palace of Chinggis Khaan once stood, there will be an exhibit hall of the archaeological research center, a monument to the Secret History of Mongols, and the White Herd Sacrificial Hall.



5. ‘Ikh Khuraldai’ complex


The complex is being built in Binder soum, Khentii aimag. With a focus on highlighting the untouched wilderness state of the natural environment, the design was done by Honored Cultural Figure D.Turtogtokh. A structure symbolizing the Nine White Banners is currently being built at the site the Great Mongol Empire was established. The 21-meter main hall will be a silvery-white colored palace with the capacity to hold 300 people. Honored Cultural Figure D.Turtogtokh said, “While the current structure with the most carvings is the Wedding Palace, the ‘Ikh Khuraldai’ complex will soon be named as the one with the most decorative patterns and carvings.” The ashes of the home of Chinggis Khaan will also be exhibited for the first time.



6. ‘Underground Mining Museum, Training, Research, and Tourism Center of Mongolia’ complex


The complex will be established in Berkh village, Khentii aimag. With the Ministry of Mining and Heavy Industry in charge of the matter, officials came to the decision to establish the complex based on the practices preparing engineers and technical personnel as well as the history of the mine alongside the pit that was used in operating the workshop and factory of the Berkh mine, lifting system, ore concentration workshop and the equipment that continued to be stored.
