Mining Minister works at Erdenet Mining Corporation

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. During the past weekend, Minister of Mining and cabinet member G.Yondon, Deputy Chair of Cabinet Secretariat B.Enkh-Amgalan along with corresponding officials worked at the Erdenet Mining Corporation, state-owned ore mining and ore processing factory operating in Orkhon aimag.
In the government’s action program for 2020-2024, which is expected to be discussed by the parliament’s ongoing session, the Ministry of Mining set out 9 sub-targets and 33 measures, and two of the sub-targets directly concern large-scale projects and programs under development at the Erdenet Mining Corporation (EMC), with a view to promote heavy industry.
Some of the measures include renovation and expansion of some repair shops of the EMC, projects to build copper processing plant and produce copper cathode, etc. The visiting team led by Minister Yondon checked the progress of projects and programs proposed in the government’s action plan.
As of today, the EMC has a capacity to process approximately 32 million tons of ore annually. Following the planned projects, the capacity of ore production per annum is deemed to increase to 35 million. Over the past three years, the EMC has made investments of more than USD 20 million for its geology and exploration activities, which led to conclude that its deposit and surrounding areas contain enough reserves to last more than 60 years ahead.
Afterwards, Minister Yondon got acquainted with operations of the Beren Metal’ metallurgical plant with a capacity to produce 200,000 tons of steel a year.
