Ms. Gerelmaa D, Director-General of the Multilateral
Cooperation Department, MFA, informed the participants that the UN Development
Assistance Framework for 2017-2021 has been extended by one year in connection
with COVID-19 pandemic and consequently the UNFPA 6th Country Program also will
be implemented until 2022. Ms. Gerelmaa also noted that UNFPA has worked
effectively and efficiently at all levels through re-programing its programs
and projects based on the needs and priorities. In addition, she emphasized
that in line with the recommendations issued during the Program’s annual
implementation review meeting of 2019, there is a need to further prioritize
reproductive health, unmet family planning needs, eradicating gender-based
stigma, increasing women’s participation representation at decision-making levels
and empowerment of youth issues.
Mongolia’s cooperation and partnership with UNFPA dates
back to 1976 and we have successfully completed 5 Country Programs over the
past years. The 6th Country program is centered on 3 outcomes, including sexual
and reproductive health and rights, youth development and gender equality.
UNFPA has been actively supporting and contributing both
technically and financially to the Government policies and activities against
COVID-19. To name a few, it has successfully mobilized 1.6 mln USD, established
two new One Stop Service Centers (OSSCs) in Bayan-Ulgii and Khuvsgul aimags to
provide service to survivors of violence and helped to set up real-time PCR
laboratories in Mongolia.
