Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. President of Mongolia Khaltmaagiin Battulga today afternoon cast his votes in the elections of local self-government bodies of Ulaanbaatar city and its districts at a polling station located at the 48th secondary school in Bayanzurkh District of Ulaanbaatar city.
After casting his vote in the local elections, the President addressed the media and urged citizens of Mongolia to actively participate in the ongoing elections, as he considered that the 35 percent of voter turnout as of 3 PM was too low.
“Citizens who have not cast their votes yet must now show initiative and cast their ballot before the polls close today, fulfilling their duties and responsibilities as citizens. It is not correct to demand responsibilities when you have not voted or taken steps towards changing the social relations. For instance, there has recently been a public controversy over the purchase of public school buses for more expensive price at USD 40,000 or USD 130,000 compared to regular retail prices. This means that if representatives working at the Ulaanbaatar city’s Citizens’ Khural had taken better control on the procurement process to ensure that it meets relevant requirements, no such disputes could have been arisen and citizens would not have been divided on these issues. Democracy’s golden rule is that changes can be assured through elections. Therefore, I urge all citizens to take an active part in the local council elections to make changes” said President Battulga.
