Two COVID-19 cases recorded in Zavkhan aimag

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ At the regular press briefing of the Ministry of Health today on March 4, it was reported that 44 new cases of COVID-19 - 42 in Ulaanbaatar city and two in Zavkhan aimag - were detected after performing 19,507 tests nationwide in the last 24 hours. 42 of the 44 new cases have been close contacts of previously-confirmed cases and the sources of two cases are under investigation.

 

Although no new cases had been detected in rural areas for almost two months, two cases have been reported in Zavkhan aimag. A person who was a direct contact of an infected individual left Ulaanbaatar on February 26, reaching Zavkhan aimag on February 27. "We found out a relative of one confirmed case had left Ulaanbaatar on the previous day of the detection. As the person was a close contact, we contacted Zavkhan aimag and the person was tested with rapid test and two other persons who were in a car together as well as 11 close contacts have been isolated in Zavkhan aimag," said J.Baigalmaa from the National Center for Communicable Diseases. 


Out of the rest 42 newly reported cases 20 were related to a funeral ceremony. 150 persons had been isolated in Uvs aimag as a citizen from the aimag who had come to Ulaanbaatar and participated in the funeral, was found to be infected. However, all of the 150 persons have tested negative. 


As of today the total number of Covid-19 cases in the country to 3,076, of which 2,557 are local cases. In the last 24 hours, no new imported cases were recorded and 55 people made recovery from the disease.
