Virtual training ‘Planting and caring for woody plants in Gobi Desert’ organized

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD)-funded 'Prevention and mitigation of sand and dust storm originated in dryland areas of Mongolia' project is being implemented by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in partnership with Ministry of Environment and Tourism of Mongolia.
The project successfully organized virtual training ‘Planting and caring for woody plants in the Gobi Desert region’ for 22 participants from Zamiin-Uud area.
The project is working closely with with Zamiin-Uud Governor’s Office for ground implementation, as well as with Borkhoin Bayan Burd local entity.
Multilateral cooperation key to combat desertification and land degradation, to study biodiversity in the area, to create environmentally friendly green zones, and to share knowledge and methods for proper care.
Therefore, Zamiin-Uud soum of Dornogovi aimag and the 'Tavantolgoi-Zuunbayan' 416.1 railway project plan to jointly plant trees and shrubs to promote social and economic benefits in the Gobi region – an area which is highly vulnerable to sand and dust storm and desertification.
