Foreign travelers visiting Mongolia decreased by 90.2 percent

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. The number of foreign passengers who have crossed the border of Mongolia in the first quarter of 2021 decreased by 37.1 thousand or 90.2% compared to the same period of the previous year.
In the first quarter of 2021, a total of 189.9 thousand
passengers (double counting) had crossed the border of Mongolia, decreased by
362 thousand or 65.6% compared to the same period of the previous year.
In the reference period, 95.6 thousand passengers entered to
Mongolia. Of all inbound passengers, 33.9% were crossed through Gashuunsukhait,
24.7% were crossed through Shiveekhuren, 15.3% were crossed through Zamiin-Uud,
6.3% were crossed through Buyant-Ukhaa, 1.7% were crossed through Altanbulag
and 18.1% were crossed through other border points. Out of the inbound
passengers, 91.6 thousand (95.8%) were Mongolian citizens and 4 thousand (4.2%)
were foreigners.
Due to the global outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the
Mongolian border crossing started to close from January 31, 2020. Mongolia
repatriated its 748 citizens by charter flights and 4 through road and railway
ports in January, 1195 citizens by charter flights and 65 citizens through road
and railway in February, as well as 1195 citizens by flights and 41 through
road and railway ports in March, 2021 respectively.
