Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. A certificate has been presented for Buyant-Ukhaa airport to be operated as a backup airport. Per the resolution issued by the Government, the airport was decided to be operated as a backup airport for international and domestic flights.

More specifically, the Buyant-Ukhaa airport will be used for general purposes alongside organizing aviation training, receiving charter, special, and government flights, conducting aircraft repairs and services, and for emergency situations. The Civil Aviation Authority of Mongolia (MCAA) will be in charge of running operations.

In the framework of the works carried out to implement the aforementioned Government resolution, necessary preparations were ensured at the airport as per the Regulations on Aerodrome Operations and Certification that was approved by the Minister of Road and Transport Development in 2019.

Thus, with the MCAA’s approval to run aerodrome operations in limited conditions, it has become possible for Buyant-Ukhaa airport to be operated as a backup airport.

In 2021, the airport area was zoned for state-special use in order to ensure aviation safety and have the airport continue to be operated for its intended purpose.
