28th session of Assembly of International Mobile Satellite Organization held
SocietyUlaanbaatar/MONTSAME/. The 28th Session of the Assembly
of the International Mobile Satellite Organization (IMSO) was held from 26
September to 30 September 2022 in London. Mongolian delegation to the session
was headed by His Excellency Enkhsukh Battumur, the Ambassador of Mongolia to
the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and Permanent
Representative of Mongolia to IMSO.
IMSO is an intergovernmental organization headquartered in
in London and its main purpose is to ensure the provision of maritime mobile
satellite communications services for the Global Maritime Distress and Safety
System (GMDSS) according to the legal framework set up by the International
Maritime Organization (IMO).
Mongolia joined the IMSO Convention of 1976 in 2011 and
ratified the 2008 Amendment to the Convention in 2022. Under this Convention,
Mongolia is obliged to ensure the safety and security of more than 300 ships
registered in Mongolia through long-range identification, tracking and
oversight activities.
The tenure of Captain Moin Ahmed as the Director General of
the IMSO has been expired this year and the election of Director General was
held on 29 September 2022 during the Assembly session. As a result, Ambassador
Laurent Parente, Permanent Representative of Mongolia to IMSO was elected as
the Director General of the organization.
