Confederation of Mongolian Trade Unions calls for increasing wages
SocietyUlaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. The Confederation of Mongolian Trade Unions (CMTU) calls for increasing citizens' wages in connection with the discussion of the 2023 State Budget Law of Mongolia by the State Great Khural /Parliament/.
President of the Confederation of Mongolian Trade Unions S. Erdenebat said that the Mongolian government and the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection called for a "Transition from social protection to work". In this context, he emphasized the importance of a different look at work values and making significant and radical improvements.
“Compared to the inflation rate, the purchasing power of citizens in 2021 fell by 13 percent and by 17.5 percent this year. It means that over the past two years a real purchasing power has fallen by 30 percent, and next year we will face a much higher figure. The time has come to radically change this situation.
If the average salary in Mongolia was about USD450, now it is USD400. Therefore, if we really want to maintain purchasing power, it is necessary to increase wages and incomes by at least 50 percent”, said S. Erdenebat.
