Deputy Governor Receives NEAR Delegation

Ulaanbaatar, July 27, 2023 /MONTSAME/. Deputy Governor in charge of the Social Sector, Green Development, and Air and Environmental Pollution Z.Tumurtumuu received the delegation led by the Secretary-General of the Association of North East Asia Regional Governments (NEAR) LIM Byung-jin. 


The Association was established in 1996, and since 2017, it has been cooperating with Ulaanbaatar City in the field of empowering public servants.


In this context, Deputy Governor Z. Tumurtumuu expressed his gratitude to the NEAR for organizing events such as international training, conferences, and seminars in cooperation with Ulaanbaatar city and other cities in the Northeast Asia region.


Deputy Governor Z. Tumurtumuu said, “The Association's efforts and activities play an important role in expanding relations and cooperation between Northeast Asian cities. Ulaanbaatar also takes initiatives to expand regional cooperation. For example, the Northeast Asian Mayors' Forum has been held every two years since 2014. We will remain open to any cooperation initiatives in this direction.”


NEAR is a self-governing cooperative entity, comprising metropolitan and local governments of states, provinces, prefectures, aimags, and metropolitan cities. Ever since NEAR was established, its membership has grown to eighty-one regional governments from six countries, the People’s Republic of China, Japan, the Republic of Korea, the Democratic Republic of Korea, Mongolia, and the Russian Federation. In addition, it works in partnership with three international organizations including the Assembly of European Regions (AER), the Regions of Climate Action (R20), and the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI). 


At the end of the meeting, the parties affirmed their intention to further expand the mutual relations and cooperation.
