Transportation on Tavantolgoi-Gashuunsukhait Railway Starts with Six New Locomotives
EconomyUlaanbaatar, May 27, 2024 /MONTSAME/. Transportation on Tavantolgoi-Gashuunsukhait Railway, which passes through territories of Tsogttsetsii, Bayan-Ovoo and Khanbogd soums of Umnogobi aimag has started with six new locomotives.
Out of 16 model SD70ACe/LW diesel-motor locomotives manufactured by Progress Rail, A Caterpillar Company in the United States to arrive in Mongolia, 6 have arrived and begun service in transportation. These diesel-motor locomotives are recognized in the heavy
railroad market. Also, the innovative radial railway lorry is the first of its
kind in Mongolia.
As part of the “Tavantolgoi-Gashuunsukhait Railway Project, a locomotive maintenance depot was built following the blueprints and construction plans designed for servicing US-made locomotives for the first time in Mongolia. The maintenance depot covers 2125 square meters and can service 6 locomotives simultaneously on 3 tracks. The depot has 34 repair equipment and 112 manual and electric tools installed in 9 main stations and 12 auxiliary stations.
Another significant part of the Project, a wagon maintenance depot was completed. The latest cutting-edge automated and semi-automated equipment from Russia, China, and Ukraine are installed in the depot, including 164 fully automated equipment, 31 mechanic equipment, and 90 manual tools. This depot covers 3528 square meters and has an annual capacity to perform major and medium repairs on 1300-1500 wagons, restoration and diagnostics on 3800 lorries, 7200 pairs of train wheels, and 12000 parts. It also has a model TCK-50A CNC mill and a CNC plasma cutter.
