Ulaanbaatar, August 5, 2024 /MONTSAME/. President of Mongolia Khurelsukh Ukhnaa, issued a Decree on Awarding "Ulaanbaatar Railway" JVC the Title of Hero of Labour of Mongolia, in recognition of its exceptional contributions to the country's development, major infrastructure projects, and the transport and logistics network connecting Asia and Europe.

President wished them continued success, hoping they would lead the way in the development of the new century, solidifying their achievements and attaining even greater success.

Mongolia has set the goal of becoming a major regional player in transportation connecting Asia and Europe, participating in the development of the Mongolia-Russia-China economic corridor, and transforming into "Transit Mongolia."

In this context, the President highlighted that "Ulaanbaatar Railway" (UBTZ) JVC should play a crucial role in the implementation of Mongolia's "Steppe Road" Plan in coordination with Russia's "Greater Eurasian Partnership" and China's "Belt and Road" Initiative.

President Khurelsukh also emphasized the successful and vigorous implementation of ongoing programs and projects aimed at improving and modernizing transportation capacity in stages.

Over the past 75 years, "UBTZ" JVC has transported 824 million tons of cargo and approximately 150 million passengers, solely handling the transportation of coal, petroleum products, and essential import and export goods for the daily needs of the country and its people.

In 2023 alone, "UBTZ" transported 32.4 million tons of cargo, setting a historic record and accounting for 72 percent of the country's total freight turnover, significantly supporting the economic recovery. Additionally, over 3,000 transit container trains passed through UBTZ's main line, contributing substantially to the regional transportation and logistics network connecting Asia and Europe.

During the pandemic years, "UBTZ" played a critical role in maintaining the stability of cargo flows, providing an invaluable contribution to overcoming economic difficulties with minimal loss.

"UBTZ" JVC completed the construction of the 416.1 km railway line from Zuunbayan to Tavantolgoi and the 27 km railway line to the Oil Refinery in Altanshiree soum, Dornogovi aimag, in a short time with high quality.

The railway has historically played a crucial role in the development and major infrastructure projects of key social and economic centers such as Sukhbaatar, Darkhan, Erdenet, Baganuur, Bor-Undur, Choir, Sainshand, and Zamiin-Uud.

"UBTZ" with more than 16,000 employees, continues to play a significant role in enhancing and strengthening the friendly relations and cooperation between Mongolia and Russia.
