"Ulaanbaatar Railway" JVC Expands Fleet with New Locomotives

Ulaanbaatar, August 15, 2024 /Montsame/. The Mongolian Government proposed Russia increase investments in "Ulaanbaatar Railway" JVC by equally raising its charter capital and the Russian side agreed. A handover ceremony of five new locomotives from Russia to "Ulaanbaatar Railway" JVC was held on August 14, 2024, as a part of the company's ongoing fleet renewal project.
The event was attended by Minister of Road and Transport Development of Mongolia B. Delgersaikhan, First Deputy Head of "Ulaanbaatar Railway" JVC, O.A. Kazakov, and the Director of the Railways and Maritime Transport Policy Coordination Department, Kh. Itgelt, along with other officials.
In his opening remarks, Minister Delgersaikhan noted, "Under the 1949 Intergovernmental Agreement between Russia and Mongolia, it was decided to increase the charter capital of 'Ulaanbaatar Railway' by MNT 167.4 billion, with each side contributing MNT 83.7 billion. In line with the Agreement protocol, Russia is now delivering five mainline '2TE25KM' series locomotives to 'Ulaanbaatar Railway' JVC."
These "2TE25KM" series locomotives, which have been in use on the Mongolian railway since 2017, are designed to withstand Mongolia's harsh climate and have undergone rigorous testing. The locomotives represent an improved model in terms of technical performance.
After the ceremony, Minister Delgersaikhan visited the "Ulaanbaatar" traction section under "Ulaanbaatar Railway" JVC, getting acquainted with the working conditions, staff housing, and the section's history museum, while exchanging views with the authorities.
