Over 50 Mongolian Companies Received the “Women Owned” Certification Label
EconomyUlaanbaatar, December 10, 2024 /MONTSAME/. On December 5, 2024, the She Trades Hub in Mongolia organized the “She Leads” event at the Mongolian National Art Gallery to promote products and services of women-led enterprises. The event also marked the launch of the website www.womenowned.mn, dedicated to supporting women's entrepreneurship.
Since 2017, the World Trade Organization, in collaboration with the International Trade Center, has organized the “She Trades” Initiative with the aim to increase the participation of women entrepreneurs in international trade.
Today, the “She Trades” Initiative has opened 17 regional hubs across Asia, Africa, South America, the Caribbean, and Europe. In 2023, Mongolia established its She Trades Hub under the Mongolian National Chamber of Commerce and Industry to empower women entrepreneurs, becoming the 15th member of the Initiative. The Hub has introduced and implemented the “Women Owned” certification label in order to support women entrepreneurs and promote their activities to the public.
In addition to promoting sustainable development and green business initiatives, commercial banks in Mongolia are now tailoring their products and services to support women-led enterprises.
Currently, over 50 Mongolian companies and businesses have been given the “Women Owned” certification label. Notably, during the “She Leads” event, “Savanna Organica,” “Global Talent Management,” and “Monfoodland” companies received their “Women Owned” certification labels, and officially joined Mongolia’s She Trades Hub.
Their membership in the She Trades Hub will open up new business opportunities in trading with other members of the Initiative, and strengthen the capacity to compete in international and regional markets.
In Mongolia, 68 percent of business leaders are women, a relatively high proportion. Among these, 87 percent of women-led enterprises are micro-enterprises with up to 10 employees. Among the 200 thousand registered entrepreneurs, 42 percent, or 84 thousand, are women. Furthermore, women make up 72 percent of the workforce in sectors such as food services, retail, financial services, education, and healthcare.
