Ulaanbaatar, January 6, 2025 /MONTSAME/. According to a study conducted by Oxford Insight, Mongolia has advanced 11 positions in the Artificial Intelligence Preparedness Index in 2024, ranking 98th out of 188 countries.

The Artificial Intelligence Preparedness Index is calculated based on three main criteria: Governance, Technology Sector, and Data and Infrastructure, encompassing 10 indicators.

According to detailed statistics, Mongolia’s AI preparedness index has shown constant growth in recent years. However, the lack of “Vision,” with a rating of 0, has been a factor holding back the ranking.

Therefore, the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation, and Communication of Mongolia, with the support of the United Nations Development Program, is conducting a comprehensive assessment of Mongolia’s AI preparedness using the official methodology of Oxford Insight. At the same time, work has begun to determine Mongolia’s AI vision using the “Framework and Foresight” methodology developed by the University of Houston. The importance of this methodology lies in its focus on improving the forecasting process by enhancing collective participation, developing scenarios, and analyzing outcomes.

According to the methodology, opinions, and feedback on the current state of artificial intelligence applications are being openly collected from scientists, researchers, and representatives of the private sector. As a result of these efforts, Mongolia will officially announce the “National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence” internationally in February 2025.

In the near future, artificial intelligence is projected to have a profound impact on the global economy, and governments are focusing on ensuring their readiness to leverage AI to reduce potential risks posed by the technology, gain competitive advantages in numerous areas, such as trade, industry, and security, and protect the rights and freedoms of their citizens.
