National Weightlifting Champions Emerge
SportsUlaanbaatar, January 15, 2025 /MONTSAME/. On January 12-13, 2025, the 71st Men’s and 28th Women’s National Weightlifting Championships took place at the Buyant-Ukhaa Sports Palace, Ulaanbaatar.
A total of 108 athletes from 24 organizations participated in the Championships, competing in 10 weight categories. During the competition, the winner of the 2024 Best Referee Award, International Referee Odgerel Lkhagvasuren, who was also the recipient of the “Burte Chono” Award, was awarded the trophy. Mrs. Odgerel served as a referee at the Junior World Weightlifting Championships in Amman, Jordan. Moreover, Honored Athlete of Mongolia Ankhtsetseg Munkhjantsan presented the “Golden Belt” Award to International Master of Sports Tugs-Erdene Otgonchimeg, who had recently broken the record set by M.Ankhtsetseg in 2020.
In the men’s +102kg category, International Master of Sports Munkh-Orgil Rentsensambuu claimed the gold medal for his 20th time, whereas Amartugs Alexey won his 16th gold medal in the -102kg category. Meanwhile, Ankhtsetseg Munkhjantsan earned another gold medal, adding to her collection. After receiving her medal, she stated, “I will no longer participate in international competitions. However, I plan to occasionally compete in domestic events. As a seasoned athlete who has trained for years, I can’t suddenly detach myself from the sport. Therefore, I will continue my training and participate in domestic competitions whenever I feel like it, and help younger athletes achieve success.”
In the 2025 Adult National Championship, the men’s and women’s teams from the “Aldar” Sports Club emerged victorious in the team standings, while the teams from Khan-Uul District placed second. The bronze cup was awarded to the teams from Uvurkhangai aimag and the “Batsol” Company.
