Ice Archery League to Be Held with a Prize Pool of MNT 100 Million
SportsUlaanbaatar, January 21, 2025 /MONTSAME/. The Mongolian Ice Archery Association (MIAA) plans to organize a “LEAGUE” archery tournament with a prize fund of MNT 100 million.
MIAA has branches in 21 aimags,
and Ulaanbaatar City in Mongolia as well as in four countries abroad. Ice archery has
been recognized as a sport since 2013, and about 300 member athletes of the
association, most of whom earned titles, regularly participate in ice archery
tournaments.
Chief judge of the LEAGUE” archery tournament N. Buyannemeh, said, “We organize a national championship every year. The top 16 teams in last year’s National Championships will compete in the league. By organizing a tournament in the league format, we aim at including ice archery in the Winter Olympics program in the future. The 16 teams in the league will be divided into two tiers. The Higher and Top Leagues will be organized. The third round of the league would be the National Championships. Since ice archery is held outdoors in freezing temperatures, there are few spectators. Therefore, we will use modern technologies to broadcast live on television and online.”
The MIAA is striving to develop this sport so that the athletes who carry the legacy of this traditional sport will have the chance to improve their livelihoods through the relatively high prize pool of the "League." Moreover, the Government of Mongolia is organizing various activities and events to promote winter tourism in the country from 2023 to 2050, one of which is the promotion of ice archery.
