Prime Minister of Mongolia Receives Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Mongolia

Ulaanbaatar, March 27, 2025 /MONTSAME/. On March 26, 2025, Prime Minister of Mongolia Oyun-Erdene Luvsannamsrai received Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to Mongolia Choi Jin-won on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and the Republic of Korea.
At the meeting, Prime Minister Oyun-Erdene extended greetings on the 35th anniversary, emphasizing that since 1990, the bilateral relationship and cooperation have expanded in all areas of society and the economy, founded on common values cherishing democracy, human rights, and freedoms. The Premier noted that the relations between the two countries have evolved into a Strategic Partnership.
Moreover, the Prime Minister emphasized South Korea’s role as an important “third neighbor” and a close regional partner of Mongolia. Reflecting on 35 years of successful collaboration, Premier Oyun-Erdene highlighted the need to further enhance trade and investment and to elevate economic cooperation to a new level and expressed Mongolia’s commitment to accelerating joint projects and called for increased efforts to expedite major initiatives, including the “Solongo Affordable Housing Complex 1 and 2” Project and the “Heating System Improvement Project of 10 Mongolian Aimag Centers.”
In addition, Prime Minister Oyun-Erdene stressed the importance of promoting people-to-people exchanges and urged efforts to facilitate travel for Mongolian citizens to South Korea and to strengthen protections for Mongolians residing in the country, ensuring their rights and well-being are safeguarded.
Ambassador Choi Jin-won reaffirmed South Korea’s commitment to solemnly celebrating the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. He expressed his satisfaction with the deepening and strengthening of the Strategic Partnership, the implementation of major projects in urban development, mining, and energy, and the successful progress in negotiations for an Economic Partnership Agreement. The Ambassador highlighted that agreements reached during Prime Minister Oyun-Erdene’s visits to South Korea in 2023 and 2024 are beginning to take shape in concrete actions. Specifically, he mentioned the recent meeting of the Joint Committee on Rare Earth Metals in Seoul and the acceleration of research activities in the sector. Additionally, Mr. Choi Jin-won reaffirmed his commitment to expediting joint projects between the two countries and further enriching economic cooperation and improving conditions for the mutual travel of Mongolian and South Korean citizens.
