Parliamentary Friendship Groups of Mongolia and Sweden Hold Virtual Meeting to Foster Bilateral Relations

Ulaanbaatar, March 31, 2025 /MONTSAME/. On March 28, 2025, Member of the Parliament of Mongolia and Head of the Mongolia-Sweden Parliamentary Friendship Group Uuriintuya Dorjsuren held a virtual meeting with Head of the Sweden-Mongolia Parliamentary Friendship Group and Member of the Riksdag of the Kingdom of Sweden Markus Wiechel. 


At the meeting, MP Uuriintuya Dorjsuren expressed satisfaction with holding the first meeting of the parliamentary groups and extended her gratitude to Mr. Markus Wiechel for taking a leadership role in establishing the Sweden-Mongolia Parliamentary Group in the Riksdag of the Kingdom of Sweden and working actively to expand bilateral relations and cooperation between the two countries. The Head of the Mongolia-Sweden Parliamentary Friendship Group highlighted the importance of expanding and developing relations and cooperation with the Kingdom of Sweden, Mongolia’s third neighbor and an important partner in Europe, across all sectors, based on common values such as mutual trust, democracy, human rights,  and the rule of law. Ms. Uuriintuya introduced the expansion of the State Great Khural of Mongolia to 126 members in accordance with the country’s Constitution. Moreover, MP Uuriintuya emphasized the significance of strengthening inter-parliamentary relations and expanding cooperation between the secretariats of the parliaments of the two countries in expanding Mongolia-Sweden relations.  


Head of the Sweden-Mongolia Parliamentary Friendship Group Markus Wiechel expressed his gratitude for initiating the virtual meeting between the parliamentary groups. Mr. Markus Wiechel emphasized that the Sweden-Mongolia Parliamentary Friendship Group includes representatives from six of eight parties in the Parliament, which is a sign of Sweden’s emphasis on expanding bilateral relations and cooperation with Mongolia. Mr. Markus Wiechel expressed confidence that the two parliamentary groups will collaborate in developing new proposals and initiatives to strengthen bilateral relations and intensify inter-parliamentary cooperation. 


The virtual meeting was attended by Members of the Parliament of Mongolia and members of the Mongolia-Sweden Parliamentary Friendship Group, Baasanjargal Khurelbaatar, Luvsanjamts Ganzorig, Erdenebat Sukhbaatar, as well as members of the Sweden-Mongolia Parliamentary Friendship Group in the Riksdag of the Kingdom of Sweden Margareta Cederfelt, Rashid Farivar, Björn Söder, and Erik Hellsborn.
