Catalogue of Mongol Artifacts Stored in the State Museum of Oriental Art to Be Published

Ulaanbaatar, April 28, 2025 /MONTSAME/. Officials of Museums under the Ministry of Culture, Sports, Tourism, and Youth are on a working visit to the Russian Federation. Director General of the State Museum of Oriental Art and Doctor of Historical Sciences A.V. Sedov met with the Mongolian delegation, led by Director of Chinggis Khaan National Museum of Mongolia Chuluun Sampildondov, and the two sides discussed cooperation.


Director General A.V. Sedov presented the best exhibits from the treasury of the State Museum of Oriental Art related to the history of Mongolian art and culture and proposed to conduct joint research and exhibitions.


Director of the Chinggis Khaan National Museum Chuluun expressed his intention to study the exhibits related to Mongolia stored in the Museum and publish a catalogue within the framework of the “Mongol Heritage Spread Around the World” Project in the second quarter of 2026.


Founded in 1918, the State Museum of Oriental Art is a major center of Russian culture and education, and it also houses numerous rare collections of art and culture of the peoples of the Middle East, Central Asia, the Caucasus, and the Far East.


The exhibits related to Mongolia, stored in the State Museum of Oriental Art include a collection of Buddhist artifacts related to Mongolian history in the 19th and 20th centuries, tanka paintings, golden deities crafted in the Zanabazar school, Mongol paintings, clothing, women's jewelry, silver cups, utensils, musical instruments, and wood carvings.
