Thermal Power Stations Instructed to Work under Special Regime

At the Cabinet session on June 18, 2025, Minister of Energy Choijilsuren Battogtokh presented the current situation of the energy sector, the progress of preparation work for winter 2025-2026, issues to be addressed in the future, and the recent fire accident at Thermal Power Plant No. 3.
Progress and timely completion of winter preparations in
the energy sector are being closely monitored, and necessary measures are being
taken to manage any unexpected predicaments, ensuring efficient communication,
reported the Minister. Winter preparations of the total of 46 companies
operating in the energy sector are currently about 30 percent complete,
including the progress of overhaul maintenance and technical arrangements
The equipment at thermal power stations has been used for 35-60
years and equipment and devices for the electric power transmission and
distribution network have been used for 32-62 years, which means 40 percent of
the total equipment reached to the end of their service life.
As for thermal coal mines, preparation work for winter
2025-2026 of “Baganuur” JSC, “Shivee-Ovoo JSC, and “Sharyn Gol” JSC is over 40
percent complete. In connection with the presentation, the Cabinet decided to formulate
proposals on measures to be taken in the future and
discuss the issue again.
