State leaders greet diplomatic mission heads on New Year

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The President Ts.Elbegdorj, the Speaker of parliament Z.Enkhbold, and the Prime Minister Ch.Saikhanbileg gathered heads of the diplomatic missions of foreign countries, accredited to Mongolia and greeted them on the New Year.

Mr Elbegdorj talked about achievements in the Mongolian external relations and highlighted some most important events expected this year in political and social spheres.

Mongolia is a peace-loving, open and democratic country, it has been adhering to multi-pillar and open foreign policy, Mr Elbegdorj emphasized. It also has been maintaining a policy of neutrality for some 20 years, he added.

Mongolia has been selected as the host nation for the 11th ASEM Summit in 2016, which is coinciding with the ASEM’s 20th anniversary, all the preparation is being ensured by a national council chaired by the PM together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he said and thanked the Ambassadors for attaching a great significance to this grand gathering.

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Mongolia and the Doyen of the diplomatic corps Mr Takenori Shimizu delivered a speech and wished Mongolia success in playing host to the ASEM Summit.

Mr Shimizu also underlined that 2015 was a special year for Mongolia because it received its third millionth citizen, and congratulated Mongolia on being elected the member of the United Nations Human Rights Council by collecting votes of 172 countries.

Mongolia is suffering from some difficulties in the economic and financial spheres, but it has made big efforts to overcome these problems, plus, some macro-economy indicators have shown positive results, Mr Shimizu said. He also stressed an importance of the ASEM Summit.
