Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Khan Bank started disbursing student loans with a 5% annual interest rate on May 19, taking part in the Good Student program implemented by the government to give the nation's young people greater opportunities to pursue higher education, the bank’s website published Tuesday.

There are 162,626 university and vocational education students nationwide, but 49% haven’t paid their tuition fees for the 2015-2016 academic year. Many students drop out of school and lose the motivation to graduate due to the stresses of paying tuition fees.

The Mongolian government has initiated the Good Student program in order to support competitiveness among higher education institutions, improve access to education and increase learning opportunities, and to foster students’ independence, responsibility, and competitiveness.

The Ministry of Education, Culture and Science and Khan Bank have implemented the Good Student program by issuing 3 types of loans on concessional conditions to support students’ aspirations for education and to help them pave their own road to a brighter future.
